Rodrigo Bentancur: Pundit can’t believe ‘ridiculous’ Tottenham development

Rodrigo Bentancur’s injury blow is the last thing Tottenham needed ahead of a vital game against Leeds United today.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after an update from Antonio Conte.

As quoted by Football.London on Friday (25 February), Conte has claimed Bentancur‘s injury isn’t serious but he won’t be available to face Leeds today.

Earlier on Friday, Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick reported the midfielder, who went off injured against Burnley on Wednesday (23 February), could miss the next three weeks.

Bentancur has started Spurs’ last three league games and Kenny insists his absence is a significant blow.

“That’s the last thing Tottenham need,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He’s come in from Juventus and done quite well for himself in the few games he has played.

“Conte clearly wanted a better midfielder so we went and bought one.

“Now he’s unavailable and he’s back to the midfielder that convinced him he needed a new midfielder.

“You can’t make it up, that’s ridiculous. It is a blow for them because they really need to win this Leeds game.

“They should still have enough to get past Leeds but you never know with the way this team is playing at the moment.”

Tottenham will overtake Wolves if they can pick up all three points at Elland Road.

A win would also leave Spurs four points off fourth-placed Man United.
