‘Roy Keane tipped for off-field Man United role’
Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane is well known these days for his punditry roles, but it has been suggested that the Irishman could fit into a behind-the-scenes position at Old Trafford.
United have had a dismal campaign, currently sitting a lowly 16th in the league table, with just one game remaining.
The Red Devils are already guaranteed their worst-ever Premier League finish this season, as they cannot climb higher than 14th on the final day.
To make matters worse, Tottenham beat Man United 1-0 in the Europa League final, to deny the Manchester club Champions League football next season.

Keane for coaching role
Keane spent 12 years at Man United between 1993 and 2005, winning seven Premier League titles, four FA Cups, and one Champions League.
The hardcore midfielder left the club after a falling out with Sir Alex Ferguson, finishing his career at Celtic, before moving on to managerial roles at Ipswich and Sunderland.
Club | Years |
Cobh Ramblers | 1989-1990 |
Nottingham Forest | 1990-1993 |
Man United | 1993-2005 |
Celtic | 2005-2006 |
One of Keane’s former teammates, Quinton Fortune, believes that the ex-United skipper could help turn fortunes around at Old Trafford.
Speaking to the Sun (23 May), Fortune said: “He drove the team every single day. For me, it would be a no-brainer for me to have Keane as a coach there – it would make a big difference to the team.
“Of course he would have to want to do it, but if he did then it’s a no brainer. The players would be very fortunate to have him as a coach.”

United must instill some discipline
Football Insider Verdict
While it is unlikely that Keane would switch the pundit chair for the dugout, the sentiment that Man United need someone who can instill some discipline and fight into the players is correct.
It has been revealed that Ruben Amorim has offered to walk away from Old Trafford, and it seems that the Portuguese manager lacks the bravado and self-belief to manage a club of United’s size.
How the 39-year-old deals with Alejandro Garnacho’s recent public outburst will be very interesting, as it could set the tone for the rest of his tenure.
Amorim must find a way to either get rid of the Argentinian winger, or deflate his ego and encourage him to fight with his teammates to resurrect the Red Devils.
If the former Sporting boss fails to rectify the situation, the players will lose respect for him, and further problems will occur.
