‘Ruben Amorim disappointed in Man United transfer window despite club PR’
Man United manager Ruben Amorim will likely feel unhappy with the club’s quiet January transfer window, according to Darragh MacAnthony.
The Red Devils have only signed Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven this winter, with no further deals expected before the window closes.
Although United were heavily linked with 19-year-old Mathys Tel, the forward ultimately chose to join Tottenham on loan, with United not keen on making the move permanent.
MacAnthony said that it’s “good PR” for United on Sky Sports News, reacting to Melissa Reddy’s report that the club are content with their current squad and prefer to hold off on any further signings until the summer.
He said (6:34pm): “That was some good PR for Man United there. You’re obviously buying what they’re selling, like ‘they’re happy with this and they’re happy with that’ and whatever else.
“I dare say the manager would’ve been delighted with a new striker and a couple of other pieces that can actually hit the back of the net…
“If you’re building towards something special with a new manager you get a few pieces, and I get moving out players, I understand that totally, you’ve got to balance books…
“But I dare say, the manager, if you’ve gonna put a lie detector test next to him he’s not going to agree with everything Melissa’s just told us there. I’m sure there’s some disappointment that there wasn’t maybe or or two other pieces come in…
“You would have just thought they’d do a bit more in this window, just for this window. How many players has he signed since he’s come in? The left wing-back.”
Man United taking a risk with lack of transfers for Ruben Amorim
Football Insider Verdict
Ruben Amorim’s side is facing struggles both up front and in defence, with the team failing to adequately replace players like Marcus Rashford and Antony.
In terms of attacking options, United’s current striker pairing of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have been underwhelming, with just five Premier League goals between them this season.

The team has only managed 28 goals in total, which is the joint-fifth worst in the league this year.
Along with Tel, United were also in talks with Christopher Nkunku during the transfer window, with a possible swap deal involving Alejandro Garnacho being touted, though that deal now seems unlikely.
If the club truly believe they are in a good position, it could lead to even greater concerns, particularly regarding the state of their attack.
In other news, Man United fans have expressed their concerns over Lisandro Martínez’s latest injury setback.
