‘Ruben Amorim doesn’t want to be at Man United’ amid ‘unacceptable’ situation

Ruben Amorim appears to be regretting his decision to join Man United as his team continues to struggle on the pitch and wants to be “anywhere else”.

The Red Devils have fallen to 14th in the Premier League table in one of their worst league campaigns in the club’s history, and are now winless in four matches after the defeat to Newcastle on Sunday, 13 April.

Alejandro Garnacho cancelled out Sandro Tonali’s opener at St James’ Park, but with Harvey Barnes netting a brace and Bruno Guimaraes adding a late fourth, the expected result came to fruition.

Since leaving Sporting CP in November, the manager has won just 29 per cent of his league games in charge, and now, Martin Keown believes that the 40-year-old is regretting his mid-season move to Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim regretting Man United switch

Speaking live on talkSPORT (14 April, 11:10am), Keown said: “He [Amorim] looks like he’d rather be anywhere else but there. I’m not seeing that he’s really in this.

“He looks like the team – passive, everything going on around him, and he’s not getting his messages across. The defence is error-ridden, there’s no pace in-behind. It must be a joy to play Man United because you can just roll over them. It’s 14 defeats now – it’s unacceptable.”

Europa League title needed to save Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford

Football Insider verdict

Richard Keys suggested in February that Amorim already had eyes on the Man United exit doors, and with his team’s fortunes only getting worse from there, the opinion is no longer raising eyebrows.

Playing devil’s advocate, some believe the under-pressure manager needs at least one full summer transfer window before he is properly judged, but even that might not be enough to save him.

The likes of Rasmus Hojlund, Christian Eriksen, Luke Shaw and Casemiro are all seen as deadweight in the squad, with a full overhaul needed during the summer, but Sir Jim Ratcliffe might not be able to sanction one.

Jim Ratcliffe

Ratcliffe has been made to enforce cost-cutting measures at Man United, with the club currently struggling financially, and he is now taking the brunt of the criticism for all of The Glazers’ bad decisions.

Thanks to the lack of funding at Old Trafford, it might be extremely difficult for Amorim to bring the right players in this summer, at least until he sells most of the unwanted squad members.

Considering their performances this season, it will be a tough task to offload many of them, which puts the former Sporting CP man in an impossible situation, which could lead to him being sacked already.
