Ruben Amorim edges towards shock appointment as odds slashed for immediate Premier League return

Ruben Amorim appears to be edging towards a new managerial job in the Premier League after he was sacked by Manchester United.

The Portuguese had the Old Trafford side on the fringes of the Champions League places before he was dismissed two weeks ago, as his reign came to a close after his relations with Jason Wilcox and other members of the hierarchy broke down.

Football Insider revealed on Sunday that Michael Carrick is in the box seat to take the United job permanently, after his interim tenure began with a huge 2-0 victory over Manchester City last weekend.

Amorim received a significant compensation package from Sir Jim Ratcliffe when he was shown the door, but he may already be about to step back into the dugout elsewhere in the Premier League.

Ruben Amorim sees odds cut for Tottenham move

Football Insider revealed on Sunday that Tottenham are accelerating their plans to sack Thomas Frank, and are keen to secure a move for his successor as quickly as possible.

The Lilywhites conceded in stoppage time as they slipped to a 2-1 defeat at home to London rivals West Ham on Saturday, and it has heightened the pressure on their under-fire boss even further.

Frank’s side have now won just one of their last seven games in the Premier League, and that spell appears to have sealed his fate, with discussions regarding alternative options having already taken place among the hierarchy, according to The Times.

Amorim appears to be one of the names who will be in contention for the job, as Tottenham weigh up their potential options before they ultimately make their move.

The Portuguese is seemingly edging closer towards being handed the chance to lead Spurs, as he continues to rise through the betting markets towards a shock return.

The odds of Amorim taking the reins in North London have been drastically slashed on Monday, with one major bookmaker even pricing him as low as 6/1 for the job.

Mauricio Pochettino, Oliver Glasner and Xabi Alonso are also among the favourites, and that speculation will only continue to grow if Frank is dismissed.

Amorim’s Premier League record compared to Thomas Frank’s

Amorim’s tactical stubbornness created issues at Manchester United, but given his reputation in the game prior to his move to Old Trafford, it is no surprise to see him linked with another big job.

The Red Devils had actually shown signs of progression in the first half of the season, but they are still far too ambitious as a club to be sat outside the European places.

Amorim’s Premier League record compared to Frank’s, as per Transfermarkt.

By the end of his tenure, Amorim’s win percentage stood at just shy of the 32 per cent mark, as he tasted victory in just 15 of his 47 Premier League games while at the helm.

Frank’s figure stands at over 41 per cent, and comes across a much larger sample size of 174 games, while also including a spell with a smaller club in Brentford.

As a result, if Amorim is a genuine option for the Tottenham hierarchy, they must surely think long and hard as to whether he is the right man to take the team to the next level.
