Ruben Amorim ‘showed me he’s more frail than I expected’ – source reacts to Man United footage
Ruben Amorim has questions to answer after Man United suffered defeat against 10-man Everton at Old Trafford.
That is according to ex-Aberdeen and Everton and Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who is still unconvinced by the Portuguese boss.
Idrissa Gueye was sent off for hitting team-mate Michael Keane, but Man United failed to make the man advantage count.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall netted the only goal of the game to give Everton all three points, which ended Man United’s five-match unbeaten streak.
Ruben Amorim showed ‘frailty’ after Everton defeat
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – was surprised by Amorim’s reaction to the defeat in his post-match interview.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness believes there is some fragility about the Man United manager.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think it really gave more questions about Man United. And certainly Amorim’s after-match interview did show me more of a frailty than I expected from him.
“I mean, he’s had a reasonable run recently, and it seemed like this all fallen apart for him. And he was very, very down. And I think that was quite telling.
“I think it’s one of those defining moments for Moyes, I think. It’s got the squad really united together. They’re licking their lips ready for Newcastle at the weekend.
“And I think it was just, it was a great night’s drama and a great Premier League advert. And I think most of the neutrals would have enjoyed it as well.”

Amorim has full backing at Man United
Amorim has previously been questioned at Man United about where he has improved the Red Devils since his arrival in November 2024.
Man United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has decided to back Amorim, with the 40-year-old having now had a summer transfer window to build his squad.
The Red Devils are only five points off second place after 12 matches, with a trip to Crystal Palace up next for Amorim.
