‘Ruben Amorim to be sacked after Man United defeat to Tottenham’

Ruben Amorim has been tipped to lose his job if Manchester United fail to win their Europa League final against fellow domestic strugglers Tottenham.

United are on track for the worst ever Premier League finish in the club’s history, and currently sit a lowly 16th in the table.

However, the Red Devils have one final chance to salvage something from their dismal campaign when they take on Ange Postecoglou’s side in Bilbao with European silverware on the line.

The winners of the final will also secure Champions League football next season, which would bring in additional revenue and increase pull in the summer transfer window.

UEFA have been urged to rethink their Europa League rules, with some believing that a club finishing so low in their domestic league shouldn’t be rewarded with a free route to Europe’s elite competition.

Amorim ‘has to go’ if United lose

Amorim has been under intense pressure at Man United, with his side winless in their last seven Premier League games, a run that stretches back to the middle of March.

United’s good Europa League form has provided some respite from the criticism, but defeat in the final would ensure that the pile-on continues.

Man United have no wins from their last seven Premier League games

Speaking live on talkSPORT (12 May), former England and Tottenham forward Darren Bent believes Amorim should be dismissed if the Red Devils are beaten, saying: “I think if Man United don’t win the final, he [Amorim] has got to go, there’s been no uplift whatsoever since he’s come in

“Imagine if they don’t win it, their season goes from, ‘Brilliant we’re back in the Champions League’, to the worst season in the club’s history, by some distance.”

Amorim will be backed this summer

Football Insider Verdict

Despite Bent’s claims, Football Insider exclusively revealed that Amorim is expected to be in charge of Man United at the start of next season, regardless of the result in the Europa League final.

There is a hope that if given the summer to make some new signings, the Portuguese manager will be able to turn fortunes around at Old Trafford.

A number of high-profile names have already been linked with the Red Devils, with Man United rumoured to be interested in Antoine Semenyo, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo.

However, there have been numerous cases over the past few seasons where a highly-fancied player has made the switch to the 20-time top-flight champions, and ultimately struggled to settle.

The likes of Antony and Jadon Sancho were bought for big money and failed, so United need to ensure they are not only bringing in talented individuals but they are also giving them an environment to flourish in.
