Russell Crowe shares what stopped him from buying Leeds

By Harvey Byrne

Celebrity Leeds fan Russell Crowe has shared that he looked into buying the club “quite seriously”, but that he realised it was too much of a challenge as he looked in further.

The 53-year-old actor, producer, musician and director expressed his interest in buying the prestigious English club in February 2015 from then owner Massimo Cellino.

The supporters also urged him to buy the club in November 2015 as Italian Cellino grew less and less popular with the vocal fan base.

However, nothing materialised and Crowe has now revealed that while he certainly considered buying Leeds, he realised that it would take too much time away from his family and that steered him away from the club.

“I looked into it quite seriously with a group of people,” told Crowe to Leeds City Magazine when asked about buying the club.

“I firmly believe it’s the great sleeping dinosaur of English football. When I started to evaluate the cost of time to my family, I realised that the challenge was beyond me. Someone else will have to take up that gauntlet.”

Leeds have been taken over by Italian businessman Andrea Radrizzani this summer and he has so far proven to be popular among the Elland Road faithful despite the departure of successful manager Garry Monk.

The chief has purchased the iconic Elland Road stadium back for the club and he has also sanctioned deals for eight incoming players this summer.

Crowe and the rest of the Leeds support will now be hoping that Radrizzani’s efforts can help the club end their 13-year wait for top-flight football.
