‘Ryan Christie should land extended ban’ for Bournemouth incident – Keith Hackett

Keith Hackett believes that Bournemouth midfielder Ryan Christie should have been sent off for his tackle on Antonee Robinson during their 2-2 draw against Fulham on Sunday (29 December) and be facing an extended ban.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former PGMOL chief, ex-FIFA, and Premier League referee believes that there was “sufficient force” in the tackle.

Christie caught the Fulham full-back with an aggressive challenge that left players stunned when he remained on the pitch.

Fulham’s squad quickly surrounded the referee to showcase their outrage over the decision, which Hackett was shocked about.

Bournemouth should have gone down to 10 men with Ryan Christie’s tackle

Hackett told Football Insider, “Like the players, I think they thought it was red, I thought it was red.

“I thought there was sufficient force from the player.

“There’s this nonsense of, ‘Well he played part of the ball.’

“He may have played the ball but he’s rolled into the leg so for me, under the old sort of terminology, he’s gone over the top.

“You can’t use the ball, he’s off the ground in the challenge.

“In fairness to Rob Jones, I don’t think he’s in a good position to judge fully the impact of the movement of the player.

“For me, I still think that’s a red card.”
