Ryan Jack has handed Rangers ‘big boost’ in title race after Celtic loss – McAvennie
Ryan Jack’s continued return from injury will give Rangers a boost in the Premiership title race.
That’s according to former Celtic hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the Gers’ Old Firm loss.
Rangers found themselves 3-0 down to Celtic at half-time of Wednesday’s (2 February) Old Firm clash.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst rang the changes at half-time as Jack was introduced as one of three subs.
This was the 29-year-old’s fourth league appearance of the season and only his second since he suffered a setback in his recovery during December.
McAvennie claims Jack’s return is one of few positives the Gers can take from their derby defeat.
“I really rate Jack, his return was great to see,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“I think he’s a really big player for Rangers and he will give them a big boost in the title race.
“His return is probably the only positive to take from last night’s game.
“I’ve been very vocal about my admiration for Jack. He can be a great player for Scotland as well as Rangers.
“He gives Rangers so much in the middle, he’s a cool head. Jack came closest to scoring as well.
“That long-range effort he had was the only time I thought Rangers were going to score.
“They need to get Jack fully fit so he can play every week, he can be a game-changer for them.”

Jack has made five appearances in all competitions this season.
Rangers are next in action against Hearts on Sunday (6 February).
