Ryan Jack: McLeish thrilled by Rangers ‘good news’ after pre-Dortmund update
Alex McLeish has heralded the “good news” Ryan Jack has been passed fit enough to be part of the Rangers squad to face Borussia Dortmund on Thursday.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Ibrox boss insisted the 29-year-old could play an important role in the middle of the Westfalenstadion pitch.
As confirmed by Giovanni van Bronckhorst earlier today (16 February), Jack will travel out to Germany as part of the squad for Thursday’s Europa League play-off tie.
The midfielder has missed Rangers’ last two games, against Hibernian and Annan Athletic, with an ankle injury.
McLeish admitted the Light Blues face a “very tough task” trying to keep Dortmund at bay in Germany.
However, he suggested Jack could play a key role if he is deemed fit enough to feature.
“I know Haaland’s out but it’s still a very tough task for Rangers,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“Good news Ryan Jack’s there. He’s the player who can look after things when Rangers’ attacks break down and he can shore up the gaps between the forwards and the defence, if indeed he plays.
“It’s good that he’s there. Dortmund is a tough place to go.”
Jack’s last appearance came against Hearts at the start of February.
It was the midfielder’s first start of the season after coming back from a serious calf problem.
He has played just six times across all competitions so far this term, totalling 183 minutes of action.

Van Bronckhorst started Glen Kamara and John Lundstram in midfield for the Gers’ last league game.
Meanwhile, Steven Davis, Aaron Ramsey and Amad Diallo played in the Scottish Cup win over Annan Athletic.
In other news, Football Insider can reveal Rangers have been knocked back after contract offer tabled.
