Ryan Jack: Pundit issues ‘£10m signing’ claim as Rangers handed ‘massive boost’ in title race

Noel Whelan has insisted Ryan Jack’s return to fitness is a “massive boost” for Rangers in the title race with Celtic.

The former Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed having the 29-year-old back is like a “£10million signing” for the Light Blues.

Jack returned from an ankle injury to start in Thursday’s sensational 4-2 win away at Borussia Dortmund.

The midfielder has struggled for fitness since returning from a serious calf injury earlier this season.

Whelan admitted having Jack back in the side is “like a new signing” for Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Asked how important Jack would be in the title race, Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Oh, massive. It’s like having a new signing because he’s been out that long.

“He was coming back and then there was another injury setback. So now, hopefully, if you can keep Ryan Jack fit until the end of the season, that’s a massive boost.

“That’s more competition and more quality to the ranks. They’re not far behind, let’s be honest. It’s still wide open, this Premiership title race between Rangers and Celtic.

“To have somebody back with this quality, it’s like you’ve made a £10million signing. That’s how important it is to have these players back and firing.

“He’s already shown what a difference it makes having him back in the side.”

Jack has only played seven times across all competitions for Rangers this season.

Thursday night was only his second start since coming back from his lengthy injury layoff.
