Ryan Jack: ‘Something’s not right’ with Rangers star – Kenny

Paddy Kenny has suggested Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack should take a step back to fully recover from his injury problems.

The former Republic of Ireland goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed “something needs to be sorted” to ensure the 29-year-old’s long-term availability.

Jack missed Rangers’ 2-0 win over Hibernian on Wednesday (9 February) after suffering an ankle knock during the Ibrox club’s 5-0 triumph against Hearts (6 February).

Speaking to Sky Sports (8 February), manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst reassured fans that the midfielder’s injury is “not serious”.

As per Transfermarkt, the 10-cap Scotland international has now missed 66 games through injury since the start of last season.

When asked if Jack should take more caution with his recovery in future, Kenny told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “Yeah, absolutely.

“I think if you find that you’ve got a player who keeps coming back and getting injured straight away, then something’s not right there. Even if it seemed to be an impact injury, it could still have a bearing.

“Sometimes you can rush players back because you want them back in that lineup. Maybe he needs a slightly longer period of recovery, and that could keep him fitter for longer if he just takes that step back.

“Coming in and out the side like that with these injuries is not going to be good for him long-term. Something needs to be sorted there.”

The Hearts game was Jack’s first Rangers league start of the season following a 45-minute cameo in last week’s 3-0 Old Firm defeat.

The midfielder has played 136 times for the club since joining from Aberdeen in 2017.
