Ryan Kent: Pundit makes ‘Premier League’ claim over ‘unplayable’ Rangers player

Ryan Kent was “unplayable” for Rangers against Borussia Dortmund in Thursday’s 2-2 draw, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 25-year-old rose to the “big” occasion against the German giants.

The winger won the penalty for James Tavernier’s opener and saw a goal of his own harshly ruled out by VAR during the game.

Kent also played a starring role in the Light Blues’ 4-2 win in the first leg.

Whelan hailed the former Liverpool starlet’s performances and insisted he has now set his standard for the rest of the season.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Big games bring out big players. These sort of players love to challenge themselves against a very good style and a very good midfield.

“We’ve seen it over years he’s been at Rangers. That’s why there’s been interest from the Premier League. When he’s at it, he’s unplayable at times and he really was. I think we all kind of know that.

“It’s about getting that consistent in his performances. When it comes to big games, you want big players to turn up, and he certainly did that. Unlucky not to be on the scoresheet as well.

“I think the main point was getting through. Getting through and then testing yourself against the best. You’ve got a full house at Ibrox and that is where your platform is.

“That’s why people want to be football players, to put in those kinds of performances. To stand up against these big German giants in Borussia Dortmund and get through to the next round.

“He’s set the standards now and that’s where he needs to keep it.”

Kent has two goals and 13 assists under his belt this season.

He has sat out just four games since Giovanni van Bronckhorst took charge.

In other news, Rangers TV pundit claims another star is “way better” than everyone else and putting Ibrox teammates to shame.
