Ryan Reynolds pens emotional goodbye with Wrexham exit confirmed
Wrexham owner Ryan Reynolds has posted an emotional goodbye on social media after the club announced the departure of a key player.
The Red Dragons have moved quickly through the league’s since Reynolds and fellow celebrity actor Rob Mcelhenney took over the club in February 2021.
The Welsh club will compete in the Championship next season for the first time since the 1981/82 season.
However, Phil Parkinson will have to challenge in the Championship without the services of a key player in the club’s rise over the years.

Club legend departs to return to League One
Paul Mullin joined Wrexham in September 2021 from Cambridge having previously played for Huddersfield, Morecambe and Swindon in the football league.
Mullin spearheaded the club’s promotions from the National League and League Two, but struggled to make the squad in the second half of the League season.
The 30-year-old departs to Wigan on loan having scored 110 goals in 170 appearances in all competitions.
Owner Reynolds was quick to celebrate the strikers achievements at the club in an emotional message when his departure was announced.
The Canadian posted on Instagram a highlights video from Mullin’s time at the club with the caption: “Can’t imagine seeing Mulls on loan and in another kit.
“We wouldn’t be where we are without his heart, skill and work ethic. We love you Paul Mullin.”
Mullin departure signals new era at Wrexham
Football Insider verdict
It is likely we have seen the last of Mullin in a Wrexham shirt and that signals the end of an era at the club as a new set of players now embark on the challenge on getting the Red Dragons promoted to the Premier League.
Parkinson currently has a proven Championship striker in Jay Rodriguez, Sam Smith, Ollie Palmer and Jack Marriott on his books so playing time for Mullin would have been limited next season.
As the lowest scorers in League One last season, Wigan have signed a striker capable of leading the Latics back into the play-off picture.
Appearances | 32 |
Goals | 5 |
Assists | 1 |
With one of the meanest defences in the division last campaign, the Latics could now be one of the sides to watch now Wrexham and big spenders Birmingham City have been promoted.
For Wrexham, the Championship will be there toughest challenge yet but with the backing of Reynolds and Mcelhenney they are certainly going to be competitive.
After three successive promotions it will be interesting to see if they look to achieve a fourth or look to settle in the second tier before making their march.
