Ryan Sessegnon and ‘brilliant’ Tottenham teammate playing for futures after confirmed transfer news – Robinson
Paul Robinson has suggested Tottenham duo Ryan Sessegnon and Matt Doherty are playing for their futures.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one suggested the wing-backs could play their way into Antonio Conte’s long-term plans if they remain consistent between now and the end of the season.
Sessegnon, 21, and Doherty, 30, starred for Spurs in a 4-0 win over Leeds United on Saturday.
They then both started in Tuesday’s FA Cup defeat to Middlesbrough as Spurs sunk to a painful and humiliating defeat to the Championship outfit.
As quoted by Football.London (26 February), Antonio Conte said the duo’s performance last weekend was the first sign of his system and formation working.
Robinson has claimed it was “by far” the wing-backs best performances in a Tottenham shirt.
“They have given themselves an opportunity to get a run of games between now and the end of the season,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs. “
“I have no doubt that the wing-back areas are something that Conte plans to look at in the summer.
“That was by far their best performance in a Tottenham shirt. The way Leeds played made it easy for them though.
“Tactically, Spurs were brilliant at the weekend. Conte knew exactly how to pull Leeds around the pitch one-on-one which left space for Sessegnon and Doherty to exploit. They were both brilliant at the weekend.
“I think Sessegnon has got a better chance of holding his spot down long-term than Doherty though, given his age.”

Sessegnon has three-and-a-half years remaining on his contract in north London.
Doherty’s contract expires a year earlier.
In other news, a pundit has claimed Antonio Conte is ‘shooting from the hip’ as Tottenham ‘rollercoaster’ takes new twist.
