Ryan Sessegnon tipped to be Tottenham star for ‘years to come’ after Conte reveal – pundit

Alan Hutton has insisted Ryan Sessegnon could be a Tottenham star “for years to come” under Antonio Conte.

The former Spurs defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 21-year-old has “all the attributes” to nail down the left wing-back role in north London.

As quoted by football.london on Tuesday (22 February), Conte revealed he believes Sessegnon has the potential to become an “important player” for him and that he “trusts” the young star.

The Italian boss hailed the England under-21 star’s strength, speed, engine and resilience.

Hutton faced Sessegnon, then playing for Fulham, five times during his Aston Villa days.

He suggested the versatile wide-man could establish himself in the starting XI for the foreseeable future.

“I think the wing-backs are definitely up for grabs when it comes to Tottenham,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“There’s an opening there for him and he definitely ticks all the boxes with the attributes that he has. I played against him before when he was at Fulham and he was outstanding.

“It was obviously a massive move for him coming to Tottenham. It’s taken him a little bit of time for him to settle in.

“He’s still only 21, he’s got so much time on his hands. Obviously he came off in the first half (v Wolves). You’re thinking that can really dent a young man’s confidence, especially when he’s just finding his feet.

“To put in a good performance really steadies himself and helps him grow into the position.

“If he keeps continuing to learn, listening to the manager, do what’s asked of him, he’s got all the attributes for a very good wing-back.

“He could play there for years to come. It’s really up to him to take the bull by the horns and run with it because there’s an opportunity there for him.”

Sessegnon has played 10 times since Conte’s arrival at Tottenham.

He has only made 24 appearances since joining the club back in 2019.
