Sadio Mane cited as Liverpool star man ‘losing patience’ with his new role – expert
Frank McAvennie has claimed Darwin Nunez is “losing patience” at Liverpool.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said that Nunez will eventually reach his full potential but he is not doing enough at the moment.
The 23-year-old was subbed off in the 0-0 draw against Chelsea last week (4 April) despite the goalless scoreline and was left out of the starting lineup for Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal (9 April).
The forward replaced Diogo Jota for the final half an hour of the match on Sunday.
Since his arrival in the summer, Nunez has featured in the starting lineup in 17 out of the 23 Premier League appearances he has made for the Reds.
But, the Uruguay international has played the full 90 minutes in just five of those games and has regularly been subbed off before full time.
McAvennie insisted Nunez needs more game time to reach his full potential.
“I can tell you this – I think he is losing patience,” he told Football Insider.
“Liverpool are buying players for the future.
“There is no doubting that he is going to be a good player, I can see that a mile away, but at the moment, ‘no’.
“Man City went out and bought [Erling] Haaland who is going to break all the records now, and that is the difference.

“It just shows how much Liverpool are missing [Sadio] Mane. [Roberto] Firmino has not been playing much, [Mohammed] Salah has been playing with different players every week.
“It is strange but they have got to get back to winning ways.“
