Sadio Mane cited as Liverpool star told to pull plug on ‘dream move’ – ‘he won’t get in the XI,’ says pundit
Frank McAvennie has urged Roberto Firmino against completing a “dream move” to Real Madrid when he quits Liverpool this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker insisted Firmino won’t be able to break into the first team in Madrid given the array of talent they already have.
The 31-year-old’s contract at Anfield will expire this summer and the Brazilian has already told Jurgen Klopp he will not be signing an extension.
According to Spanish outlet El Nacional (10 April), Real Madrid are considering a move for the attacker.
Madrid president Florentino Perez is aware of Firmino’s situation and could look to bring him to the Bernabeu next season.
Karim Benzema who is also out of contract is the summer is expected to sign a new contract at the Spanish club meaning Firmino may be viewed as a back-up for the Frenchman.
McAvennie insisted Firmino shouldn’t join Real if he wants more game time.
“It is a dream move but he will not be playing,” he told Football Insider.
“It would be the same as what he gets at Liverpool.

“You have got players at Real Madrid that are not going to get dropped. Where is he going to fit in up front? He will not get in.
“He will look at [Sadio] Mane who went to Bayern Munich and see that sometimes the grass is not always greener. Mane was magnificent at Liverpool but sometimes he is not cutting it.“
