Sam Allardyce cited in ‘massive’ Leeds United claim – pundit

Frank McAvennie believes that Sam Allardyce needs four points in the final four games to keep Leeds United safe from relegation.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker believes that Allardyce will have his sights set on the ‘massive’ match against the Hammers.

Leeds United announced on Wednesday (3 May) that Allardyce had been appointed as manager to replace Javi Gracia at Elland Road.

The 68-year-old has been handed the reins for the final four games of the season, with Leeds yet to play Man City, Newcastle United, West Ham and Tottenham.

The Whites currently sit 17th in the Premer League table, avoiding the relegation zone through their superior goal difference.

McAvennie believes Allardyce needs a win and a draw to survive the drop and highlighted the clash against his former side West Ham as Leeds’ best chance of picking up three points.

Leeds still have West Ham to play, and I think they will only need four points to be right in the mix for survival,” McAvennie told Football Insider.

They also have to face Man City, but there’s no chance there.

The trip to West Ham is a massive game.

One thing Sam Allardyce will do is come in and try to tighten it up at the back.

A couple of goalless draws could be enough for Leeds, but Allardyce will be thinking that a draw and win will be enough to keep the club safe.
