Sam Johnstone told to reject Crystal Palace offer and sign for Tottenham after source’s reveal – expert
Sam Johnstone should turn down advances from Crystal Palace to sign for Tottenham.
That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
A recruitment source told Football Insider (24 May) that Fraser Forster is set to sign for Tottenham on a free after he accepted the club’s contract offer.
The 34-year-old‘s deal at St. Mary’s expires at the end of next month.
This comes after strong links to West Brom stopper Johnstone, 29, with him also leaving his club on a free transfer this summer.
Wenham claims the England international has not seen the bigger picture and is missing out on the chance to be Spurs’ number one during the 2023-24 season.
“I read something last week that said Palace were after Johnstone,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“Palace have a load of second-stringers as their goalkeeping options. I imagine, if they have contacted Johnstone and offered him the number one role with a five year deal, he will take that.
“It’s a move to a safe Premier League club. Tottenham made it clear to Johnstone that he would be a number two to Lloris next season so it makes sense in that regard.
“Where I am slightly disappointed is, I feel like if Johnstone saw the bigger picture then he would see that Lloris won’t go on forever.

“He’s 36 now. So he could come in and be the number one by the end of next season and then gpong forward, obviously that’s better than being the starter at Palace.
“Who knows? Maybe Palace offered him more money because we only offered backup wages.”
