Sam Lammers set to agree permanent Rangers move – ‘Huge’, says pundit

Rangers will sell Sam Lammers permanently this summer after his six-month loan at FC Utrecht.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic and West Ham striker Frank McAvennie was adamant that the Gers would cut their losses in the unimpactful forward.

The club confirmed that the 26-year-old will spend the remained of the season at the Eredivisie club after this lacklustre first six months at Ibrox.

The £3.5million man was widely criticised by the Ibrox faithful having notched just two goals and two assists across 31 appearances in all competitions.

McAvennie believes the Dutchman simply “couldn’t handle” the pressure at the club and was confident that his time in Glasgow is over.

“Lammers has had enough chances at Rangers,” he told Football Insider.

“The fans didn’t take to him, and that’s huge.

“Now he’s gone to Utrecht where no one is bothered if you win or lose over there.

“That was his biggest problem.

“You’ve got to win every tackle, you’ve got to win every cross and every corner when you’re at Rangers.

“And Lammers just couldn’t handle it.

“Some players go there and just can’t hack it, and that’s what’s happened.

“The fans demand 100 per cent every single minute.

“It’s a strange one but I don’t think he will be back at Ibrox.”
