Savinho sends one-word message to Vitor Reis after ‘special’ scenes away from Man City

Vitor Reis appears to be loving life away from Man City despite Girona having a difficult campaign in La Liga in 2025-26.

The 20-year-old made just four first-team appearances before leaving on loan, with many supporters wondering exactly why the club spent £29.6million on him from Palmeiras last January.

With John Stones expected to leave the Etihad Stadium soon, the Brazilian might be seen as the Barnsley Beckenbauer’s replacement, joining Marc Guehi in the centre of defence.

Pep Guardiola clearly felt that Reis needed more experience before being given regular minutes in England, and his move to Girona looks to be paying off so far.

On Monday, 17 February, the centre-half played a key role in their 2-1 win over Barcelona, winning 100 per cent of his ground duels, winning two fouls and making nine clearances [FotMob].

Vitor Reis is still celebrating after Girona stun Barcelona

Reis has started 22 of Girona’s La Liga matches to date, quickly becoming an important player at the Estadi Montilivi, and he took to social media to share his joy.

Taking to Instagram (17 February), Reis, translated to English, wrote: “Great win at home. A special night,” with praying emojis, sparking messages from names associated with the Citizens.

Claudio Echeverri, on loan at Girona as well, replied, “You are very good,” while Savinho commented, “Sinistro,” loosely translated to “sinister” and gathering a like from Abdukodir Khusanov.

Guardiola will be keeping a close eye on Reis’ development away from the Etihad Stadium, and with only a few months until the summer transfer window, he has just a few games left to convince the manager.

What did Pep Guardiola say about Reis’ move away from Man City?

The Man City manager is never one to hide his true feelings or mince his words. When asked about the situation with Reis, he could not have been any more honest.

Speaking back in the summer following the completed deal, he said, “You know my opinion, I don’t like too many players. One of the reasons, for instance, why Vitor went to Girona.

“I love Vitor a lot, he has an incredible future, but I don’t want him to be at home every weekend.”

The young defender is doing everything in his favour to earn a spot in the Man City team ahead of next season, but with the amount of talent already on show, that is a difficult ask.
