Scott Arfield backed to complete US move after confirmed Rangers news – pundit

Frank McAvennie has suggested Scott Arfield could move to an MLS club following his Rangers exit.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker was surprised Arfield didn’t get more game time for the Gers this season and insisted he still has a few years left of football to play.

The 34-year-old’s departure was confirmed by the club last week ahead of his contract expiring at the end of the month.

The midfielder joined Rangers from Burnley back in 2018 and has made 233 appearances for the Glasgow club.

Speaking to Sky Sports, as quoted by The Herald, last week (24 May), the Canada international said he is hoping to continue his playing time after he leaves Ibrox.

Arfield said he is “open to everything” and just wants to continue playing for the next few years.

McAvennie insisted Arfield has what it takes to keep going.

I think Arfield was doing a great job,” he told Football Insider.

I was delighted when he was not in the team, especially playing against Celtic. #

He puts himself about, he really did do everything for the jersey and put everything in to playing for Rangers. I felt sorry for him that he was not getting a game every week because he was a decent player.

Rangers

He will go to America I would think. He has still got three or four years left in him. If it was me I would just want to go and enjoy myself.

He has been at a big club. He will hate it if he goes to a first division or bottom Championship club in England after having been at Rangers.
