Scott Arfield cited in ‘big’ Rangers transfer claim – expert

The new members of the Rangers squad do not have enough experience to replace the players they lost this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie insisted the new arrivals at Ibrox will have to step up once the season starts this weekend (5 August).

The Gers lost a host of experienced players this summer with Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent, Allan McGregor, Scott Arfield and Steven Davis all departing the club.

Michael Beale has since welcomed eight new signings: Jack Butland, Dujon Sterling, Sam Lammers, Abdallah Sima, Cyriel Dessers, Danilo and Kieran Dowell.

Beale also added Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin to his ranks in January.

When asked if the amount of experience the club has lost is a worry, McAvennie told Football Insider:I look at Raskin and Cantwell and they have stepped up but I do not know about anyone else.

When you are at Rangers or Celtic you have to turn up for every game and especially in big games. Whether the new boys can handle that I do not know. Only time will tell but that is a lot of experience that they have let go of.

I think it was a mistake getting rid of Arfield because he gave everything for the club, why would they get rid of that

Beale is his own man, he has brought in inexperienced players and they have to step up. The game against Celtic on 3 September will be the biggest game they have every played so we will see how they handle it.
