Scott McTominay and Man United teammate set for ‘big’ moves as Newcastle United hold talks – Agbonlahor

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed a Man United exit would be best for Newcastle United target Scott McTominay.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 26-year-old and Old Trafford outcast Harry Maguire must make a “big decision” to avoid becoming “bit-part” options.

According to The Athletic (23 January), Newcastle have “held conversations” about signing McTominay with Man United needing to sell players in order to balance the books.

The report suggests a potential deal is more likely in the summer window.

McTominay has struggled for regular game time since the acquisition of Casemiro, with the Scotland international making just seven Premier League starts this season.

He is under contract at Old Trafford until June 2025.

Newcastle’s mega-money spending has not yet extended to overhauling the midfield – with Bruno Guimaraes the only marquee signing in the middle of the park since the Saudi-backed takeover.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “He’s not starting at Man United, he’s not playing.

“Players like him and Harry Maguire have got to make a big decision about whether they want to be a bit-part player, or whether they want to go and start every game.

“For me, I think it’s best for him to go.

“Man United are only going to bring in more and more midfielders in the summer.

“He’ll become lower and lower in the pecking order.”

Newcastle Man United

Newcastle are third in the Premier League, ahead of fourth-place Man United on goal difference.

Talented winger Garang Kuol, 18, is the Magpies’ only signing so far this month.
