Scott McTominay backed to quit Man United for new club after latest development – pundit
Alan Hutton has suggested Scott McTominay’s future lies away from Man United.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said McTominay will struggle to oust Casemiro from the starting position at Old Trafford.
The 26-year-old returned to the starting XI for the 3-2 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday (22 January), replacing the Brazilian who was suspended.
According to The Times (20 January), Newcastle United are among a number of clubs monitoring McTominay’s situation.
It is believed that United are not willing to sell the Scotland international as Erik ten Hag views him as an important member of the squad.
But Hutton has suggested McTominay could push for a move.
“It will all come down to what the recruitment is like and who comes in,” he told Football Insider.
“I think at this moment in time Casemiro is a vital cog in that midfield with whoever he plays with. I think Fred has played at a good level.

“That is no sleight on Scott McTominay, I think he is an excellent player. But moving forward, if he is not going to get that game time that he needs or wants then he might have to look and see if his future lies elsewhere.
“I know it will be difficult, he obviously loves the club. I think he still has a lot to give but if they are really going to challenge for that number one spot it will be interesting to see who he brings in.“
