Scott McTominay ‘not good enough’ for Man United as replacement mooted – McAvennie

Frank McAvennie has insisted Scott McTominay is not good enough to be first choice at Man United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-West Ham striker said the club “need to bring players in” to help out Erik ten Hag.

As quoted by the Daily Mail (19 July), McTominay, 25, said players at the Manchester club need to get used to criticism as it is “how it works” at United.

The Scotland international added that players need to cope with Ten Hag’s high standards and ensure they are doing their best on and off the pitch.

The Red Devils have won three out of their four pre-season friendlies, including a 4-0 victory against Liverpool.

The midfielder missed their recent game against Aston Villa after picking up a minor injury.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on McTominay’s position at Old Trafford, McAvennie said: “McTominay is a good player but not for Man Untied.

“He does well for Scotland but Man United is a massive club. He’s the kind of player that I would see as a back-up to someone.

Man United

There are too many players at Man United that didn’t do it last season that are still there. They’ve got to start bringing players in.

I think they’ve got to change everything about the club. I think they’ve got to change the attitude of the players and it’s a big job for the manager. Whether he can come in and do that I don’t know.
