Scottish FA set Rangers and Celtic on collision course over cup dates
The Scottish FA have set Rangers and Celtic on a collision course if both club’s Scottish Cup ties are cancelled over the weekend – with the rearranged fixtures set to take place simultaneously.
The SFA confirmed the arrangements on their official website as well as potential replay dates if the original fixtures go ahead.
Both sides are due to host Championship opposition over the weekend with Celtic facing Morton on Saturday before the Light Blues welcome Falkirk to Ibrox 24 hours later.
If both games fall foul to the weather – which is a real possibility after over a foot of snow fell in less than 24 hours – they are scheduled to try again on Wednesday 14th March and that is almost certain to be a non-starter.
Police Scotland have blocked both teams from playing in Glasgow on the same day previously – Rangers at Ibrox and Celtic at Firhill against Partick Thistle – despite there being a gap of several hours between one game ending and the other kicking off.
Depending on TV arrangements the games could still be moved 24 hours either side of the slated time but the lack of foresight by the Scottish FA – and the possibility that both games will be cancelled – is staggering.
