'I'll be brutally honest' - Ex-PGMOL chief destroys Toyosi Olusanya after analysing Aberdeen vs Hearts footage

Toyosi Olusanya tricked referee David Dickinson into awarding a late penalty during Aberdeen's dramatic win over Hearts.

That is according to former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA referee, Keith Hackett, who exclusively told Football Insider that the 28-year-old went down far too easily inside the penalty area.

After 89 minutes, thanks to a goal from Oisin McEntee, the Jambos looked set to claim the win, only for a spirited comeback to mean that all three points stayed at the Pittodrie Stadium.

Kevin Nisbet netted twice in the closing stages, the second from the penalty spot, after Stuart Findlay was shown a straight red card for the denial of a goalscoring opportunity (DOGSO).

However, upon reviewing different angles of the foul by Hearts' No.17, Hackett is not 100 per cent certain that a penalty was the correct decision, let alone a sending off.

The decision had huge repercussions, with Wouter Vrancken's side falling to their first defeat of the season, rather than securing a draw away from home.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Hackett accused Olusanya of diving for the last-gasp penalty, showing some sympathy for the red-carded defender.

"The player's gone down pretty easily. This is the problem with the game. Once the referee's decided that's a foul, VAR is not going to intervene," he said.

"They're not going to come in because it's not clear and obvious. To me, when I'm awarding a penalty kick, I want a bit more, if I'm honest.

"I look at the action of the player and the referee's bought it, hasn't he? He's bought that action. Because I am sure that if he's an athlete, which he is...

"And players have good balance, so it would have been easy for him to have stayed on his feet, but he's decided, 'I'll gamble'.

"He goes to ground and the outcome is a penalty awarded and a red card. It's not enough for me. I'll be brutally honest."

Not everyone at Pittodrie Stadium was celebrating the late decision, with Hearts going from near-title contenders to opening-day losers.

Labelled as a "shocking" decision, the Jambos were massively disappointed by the result, and especially how the game ended, given the controversy around Olusanya's fall.
