Scouts deployed: Newcastle join hunt for in-demand striker from French club – report

By Danny Wright

Newcastle United and Stoke have both deployed scouts to keep close tabs on teenage striker Nordine Ibouroi, according to a report.

The Sun claims that the Magpies have joined the hunt for Ibouroi, 19, with a host of other European clubs as they look to poach him from French fourth-tier club FC Martigues.

It is understood that Niort, St. Etienne and Bundesliga side Cologne are also monitoring the in-demand wonderkid, who has recently been called up to the Comoros international team, but holds a French passport, meaning that he wouldn’t need a work permit to move to a British club.

The report claims that Ibouroi attracted a lot of attention last month when he scored a wonder goal against the Monaco reserve side and that teams from the Championship are also keeping a close eye on him.

Newcastle have not be afraid to delve into the French transfer market in recent years, but have done so with mixed results by signing players like Florian Thauvin, Emmanuel Riviere and Moussa Sissoko.

Football Insider Verdict

Ibouroi looks like he has a lot of talent, but Newcastle shouldn’t be looking to sign the teenage sensation just because of one wonder goal against the Monaco reserves. There’s a lot of attention that has been cast upon the youngster and the Magpies may simply be following the crowd. They’ve done some very poor business in buying from France in recent years and they should maybe sent their scouting team elsewhere to find up-and-coming talent, perhaps Spain, where Rafa Benitez has a good knowledge of things. At 19, Ibouroi won’t be a first-team player should he join Newcastle and with a lack of experience at high levels, it’s doubtful that he would make any impact at all.
