Scouts deployed: Tottenham plotting second raid of PL rivals for teen sensation - reports

By Danny Wright

Tottenham are interested in signing Crystal Palace wonderkid Kian Flanagan, according to a report.

The Sun claims that the 17-year-old caught the eye of Spurs’ scouts while playing for Palace’s Under-23 squad.

It is also said that Liverpool are keeping tabs on the teenage sensation.

Flanagan has previously been linked with a move to one of the Premier League’s heavy hitters with Manchester United and Chelsea looking at the midfielder two years ago.

However he opted to sign professional terms at Selhurst Park and has since been called up to represent the Republic of Ireland’s Under-18 squad and has even training with Palace’s first team.

The Sun reported that Tottenham are already planning to raid their Premier League rivals Palace for Wilfried Zaha in the summer.

Flanagan made 24 appearances for the Eagles’ Under-18 side last season, scoring two goals, but has made a step up to the Under-23 squad in the current campaign.

He made his international youth debut in November 2016 when he played for Ireland’s Under-18s against the Netherlands.

The teenager made one more appearance for the Irish youth team when he supplied two assists in a 3-2 friendly loss to Germany.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has a reputation of working well with young English players having overseen the meteoric rise of Dele Alli and Harry Kane in his first team squad.

The North London club’s academy is currently thriving too with a number of players expected to make the jump to the senior team in the near future.

Football Insider Verdict

Tottenham have a brilliant recent history of developing young players and to get the best they must begin raiding other clubs for their hottest property. Flanagan is clearly someone that is highly-rated at Selhurst Park, and within the Irish youth set-up, so getting the deal done before a club like Liverpool can strike is a priority. Spurs are blessed with a large amount of English players in their squad so they are definitely good to meet UEFA’s home-grown quota next season, whereas clubs like Liverpool could be lacking in this area in the near future – meaning they could be willing to pay more for Flanagan’s signature.

In other Tottenham news, Frank De Boer has said that this Spurs star is ready to move to Barcelona.
