Sean Longstaff to hit ‘new heights’ at Newcastle after ‘brilliant’ confirmed news – pundit

Sean Longstaff will hit new heights at Newcastle United after signing a new contract.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the midfielder’s new deal.

On Wednesday (25 May), Newcastle announced Longstaff has signed a new three-year deal ahead of his current deal expiring next month.

The 24-year-old made 24 appearances in the 2021-22 Premier League season with 13 of them coming under Eddie Howe.

Kenny insists Longstaff will be on top of the world after this show of faith from the Toon boss.

“What a show of confidence from Howe,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Longstaff will be on top of the world right now, it’s a brilliant feeling. I had that with Neil Warnock.

“When a manager trusts you and has faith in you it makes life so much easier for you.

“It gives you such a lift. Listen, I think it’s great news for them.

“This has been going on for a while and to give Longstaff a long-term deal shows Howe wants him to be part of this project.

“He’s a Newcastle lad through and through and I think it will be important to keep people like that around.

“He’s still young as well so he can still improve and hit those new heights.

“He also ended the season really well, he was great in that Arsenal game. I’m delighted for him.”

Longstaff played the full 90 minutes in four of Newcastle’s last five games of the 21-22 season.

He scored one goal in the league.
