Spotted: Rangers senior player jets out of UK as speculation swirls – reports
Rangers defender Bruno Alves has been spotted leaving the UK as speculation swirls about his future, according to a report.
The Daily Record are claiming that the centre-back was seen in Edinburgh Airport on crutches jetting out of the country after suffering an injury against Celtic in the Old Firm draw on Saturday.
Speculation has swirled around the 35-year-old’s future since he was recently linked with a move to the Middle East by the Daily Mail.
The Portuguese international, who is one of the senior players in the squad at Ibrox, was signed in the summer by Pedro Caixinha but speculation has surrounded his future since the departure of Caixinha in October.
Football Insider verdict
Getting Alves off the wage bill may be an idea that Graeme Murty and Gers director of football Mark Allen may well be considering. The player will presumably be on big money, and he has struggled with injures since moving to Glasgow. The other reason that Rangers may consider selling him is that the Light Blues have played just as well when Alves hasn’t been in the side. David Bates replaced the veteran defender in the Old Firm derby and turned in a fine performance, he also played well when he replaced Alves in the win at Pittodrie. If Rangers are able to reinvest the money saved on Alves’ contract into other areas of the pitch they may well sell the player.
