Stewart Robertson makes claim about Rangers recruitment after manager decision made
Rangers managing director Stewart Robertson has claimed recruitment is an ‘art rather than a science’ after the Gers confirmed on Friday that interim boss Graeme Murty would continue in charge until the end of the season.
Murty took the reins in the wake of Pedro Caixinha’s sacking in October and was expected to step aside for Caixinha’s long-term successor in January.
The Gers have won six of their nine games under Murty since he took charge and the former Scotland international has six months to make the job his on a long-term basis.
Robertson also revealed his belief that the Gers had made the right choice to take the Ibrox giants forward.
“Someone once said to me, ‘recruitment is an art, rather than a science’,” said Robertson, as quoted by BBC Scotland.
“It’s more important that we get the right man and I think we have got the right man to move the club forward.
“Life doesn’t go in a straight line.
“We’ve all been there in different situations where there are twists and turns and in this situation we’re delighted to have Graeme in charge.”
The Gers made an approach for Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes at the beginning of December but were knocked back by the Dons before McInnes committed his future to th Pittodrie side and killed off any possibility of moving to Ibrox.
Murty joined the Ibrox side in August 2016 as the club’s Under-20’s head coach and also took the reins on a temporary basis earlier this year when Mark Warburton resigned in February.
The Light Blues travel to Kilmarnock on Saturday afternoon to take on Steve Clarke’s side as the winter break – and January transfer window – rapidly approaches.
In other Rangers news, four new signings are on the cards in January after the appointment of Graeme Murty until the end of the season.
