Rangers senior player should hang his head in shame after stinker v Celtic
COMMENT
Rangers midfielder Graham Dorrans arrived at Ibrox in the summer to much fanfare as he joined his boyhood heroes from Norwich City but the 30-year-old should be ashamed of his performance in Sunday’s 5-0 thrashing by Celtic.
Dorrans is one of the more senior players in the squad and is very much one of the senior players in the dressing room – particularly after Lee Wallace and Kenny Miller were suspended – but he offered little more in midfield than any one of the Rangers fans who had travelled to Celtic Park would.
The midfielder has had his injury problems this season but the way he looked to be sucking air down after half an hour of the meeting with Celtic raises serious concerns over his fitness.
Dorrans’ passing was all over the place and the number of times Olivier Ntcham or Scott Brown were able to take all the time they wanted in midfield to pick a pass was ridiculous as Dorrans and Holt were ran ragged by the Hoops midfield.
There’s little doubt over Dorrans’ ability but his application at times leaves a lot to be desired – particularly in big games.
The former West Brom and Norwich ace has been anonymous in both of the last two Old Firm games and he is the sort of player the Gers can trust to give a decent performance when they really need it.
To be clear though, Dorrans was far from the worst player in a Rangers jersey – that distinction belongs to Josh Windass – but Dorrans’ senior role in the squad means expectations are that bit higher for the former Scotland international.
With only three games left in the campaign, Dorrans really needs to step up and drag his team-mates over the line and secure second place in the summer or the Gers could face missing out on a place in the Europa League next term altogether.
In other Rangers news, the club have sealed two new signings and three more are in the pipeline in an ASTONISHING transfer blitz before the window even opens.
