Sensational Eric Ramsay sack news emerges just two games in at West Brom

West Brom collapsed at The Hawthorns on Tuesday as they were incredibly thumped 5-0 by relegation contenders Norwich City.

Eric Ramsay was appointed by West Brom just over a week ago, and the manager has already overseen losses to Middlesbrough and Norwich.

The 34-year-old was targeted to turn around the Baggies’ season, but the situation seems to be rapidly deteriorating even further.

West Brom sacked Ryan Mason at the start of January, after the former Tottenham coach won just nine of his opening 27 games in charge.

Ramsay emerged as West Brom’s first choice for the manager’s position, despite the coach sharing a lack of experience with his predecessor.

Odds slashed as Eric Ramsay enters sack race already

Some West Brom fans will be starting to see shades of Wilfried Nancy‘s time at Celtic developing.

Both managers arrived from the MLS, with the Frenchman leading his side to losses in each of his first four games in charge.

Despite a brief upturn in form, Celtic sacked Nancy this month after losses against Motherwell and Rangers.

And there will be fears that a similar process could take place at West Brom, although it is early days just yet.

The Baggies were unlucky to lose to promotion-chasers Middlesbrough in Ramsay‘s first game, losing late on after they had come from 2-0 down to equalise.

But Tuesday’s performance was staggeringly bad. Norwich were clinical, undoubtedly, while West Brom seemed to miss chance after chance.

Yet the Canaries are 20th, and there cannot be any excuse for losing 5-0 at home.

West Brom manager Eric Ramsay with betting odds

Ramsay has been handed 9/1 odds of being the next Championship manager to face the sack already, with Marti Cifuentes (11/8) and Valerien Ismael (5/2) leading the way according to one major bookmaker.

What Ramsay said after Norwich embarrassment

West Brom fans were, understandably, furious after Tuesday’s defeat. The Baggies have lost their last four consecutive Championship games, and now sit just three points away from the relegation zone.

Most of the anger is directed at those above Ramsay, who have brought in a very inexperienced manager to oversee a perilous situation, in which a manager with a similar level of experience just failed.

Speaking to West Brom after the game, the former Minnesota United manager said: “Nobody can walk off that pitch feeling good about what has happened tonight.

“Of course, it’s my job as the coach to really push them and to hold them to high standards, to make sure that it’s clear where the line is and tell them where we’ve fallen short.

“However, I’ve also got to make sure I separate my eight days here from everything that has gone before. I’ve come in with a sense of energy, I recognise the magnitude of the challenge and I feel I’m well-equipped for it and I feel the group is well-equipped to meet it, but this is a sticky spell.”

West Brom will take on Derby County on Friday, as they look to stabilise what currently appears to be a sinking ship.
