Sergio Gomez to be ‘fast-tracked’ by Man City after confirmed news – pundit
Alan Hutton has claimed Sergio Gomez “has to be” a regular starter at Man City.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Premier League defender suggested Marc Cucurella’s decision to join Chelsea will “fast track” the 21-year-old’s entry into the first team.
On Tuesday (16 August), the Cityzens confirmed the signing of Gomez from Anderlecht on a four-year deal.
As revealed by Sky Sports (16 August), the deal is worth £11million.
Pep Guardiola’s side had initially planned to send the Spaniard out on loan.
However, Guardiola has since said Gomez will stay in Manchester.
The Spain under-21 international was on City’s radar when they were trying to sign Cucurella.
When asked if Gomez would likely be a regular starter for the Sky Blues this season, Hutton told Football Insider‘s Charlotte Cohen: “He has to be.
“[Oleksandr] Zinchenko has left and the plan A to sign Cucurella hasn’t worked so you move to plan B. His timeline has been fast tracked and he’ll know that.

“He has been given an opportunity probably quicker than what he was expecting. When you get given the chance, if you take that and show your quality and ability on a consistent level, then you’re going to play and that’s what he’ll be searching for.
“He’ll want to hit the ground running, he’s definitely said the right things so now he has to go and prove it.“
