Coach: This is the biggest area of weakness for brilliant Leeds outcast

By Matt Farr

Italian coach Sergio Pirozzi believes Leeds outcast Giuseppe Bellusci must improve his aerial ability.

Pirozzi worked with the  27-year-old at amateur level, but has been following the defender’s progress in the professional game, and revealed to Tuttomercato the one area he could improve as a player.

He did though, also admit that Bellusci has had a brilliant career in the game, despite falling out of-favour at Elland Road.

He said: “He’s good, but he can do better. If he had worked harder on his heading, he could be better.

“He always looked to take the ball forward. But so far his career has been brilliant.”

Bellusci joined Leeds in 2014, but fell out with former Leeds boss Steve Evans at the end of last season after a series of controversial incidents.

He marked his debut for the club in spectacular fashion, earning a straight red-card in a 4-1 defeat to Watford at Vicarage Road in August that year.

Several months later, Bellusci was charged by the FA for an allegation of using racist language towards Norwich’s Cameron Jerome – although he was later found ‘not guilty.’

He received a second red card of the season in January, this time in a 1-0 victory over Bournemouth. Then in April, he was one of six signings made by Massimo Cellino to controversially withdraw from the matchday squad with ‘injury’ ahead of their meeting with Charlton.

During the 2015-16 season, Bellusci stormed out of training after hearing manager Evans planned to drop him from the squad, and he did not feature in any of Leeds’ remaining games.

He was shipped off to Italian side Empoli on loan at the start of the season, but may return to Leeds in the summer.
