Kenny backs Sheffield United to sign ‘magic’ free agent after last-gasp move

Sheffield United could sign a creative player on a free transfer after they failed to recruit one in the regulation window.

So says Blades icon Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about United’s lack of a “creative spark” so far this season.

United signed goalkeeper Robin Olsen, centre-half Ben Davies and midfielders Morgan Gibbs-Whites and Conor Hourihane over the summer.

All four captures are on loan, while Aaron Ramsdale left the club permanently after the Blades accepted a bid of an initial £24million.

The Blades missed out on Barcelona attacking midfielder Alex Collado on deadline day, as per Yorkshire Live on 2 September.

Slavisa Jokanovic’s side remain winless after four matches in the Championship and are the division’s lowest scorers with just one goal.

Transactions between two teams are not permitted after 31 August, but clubs can still sign unattached players as long as there is room in their squads.

And Kenny would love to see a “magic” player move to Brammall Lane to boost their promotion hopes.

“They still need a creative player,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“Sheffield United haven’t created anywhere near enough chances at the start of this season. They have got so many attacking options for that level, it’s ridiculous.

“If they can create those chances and add another midfielder, someone who is a bit magic, who can be that spark, that would be good.

“There might be someone who is coming in as a free agent. It might be something that the manager has thought about now the window’s shut.
