Ronaldo Vieira’s move to Sheffield United collapsed due to issues over his medical, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The Leeds academy product was all set to sign for the Championship club after agreeing the terms of a season-long loan deal from Sampdoria.

Slavisa Jokanovic confirmed after his team’s 4-0 thrashing at West Brom that the deal was off after he had earlier revealed it was all but complete.

The manager did not divulge any reason for Vieira’s transfer falling through.

But a United source has told Football Insider that it was due to “concerns” over his medical.

Vieira, 23, missed 29 games through injury during his loan spell with Hellas Veronas in 2020-21.

The midfielder, whose contract expires in 2023, signed for Sampdoria from Leeds in 2018.

He would have become the Blades first signing of the summer had the deal been completed at the time.

That title instead goes to outcast Liverpool defender Ben Davies, whose loan capture was announced on 16 August.

United have been busier in terms of outgoings as five players have left the club on free transfers.

The fee for the 23-year-old goalkeeper is believed to be £24million upfront, rising to £30m with add-ons.
