John Lundstram is a “£10million” player and does not deserve the stick he is getting from Sheffield United fans.
That is according to ex-Blades shot-stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the “fantastic” 27-year-old midfielder.
Lundstram has started 18 successive matches for the relegation-bound side but his recent performances have attracted major criticism from fans.
The Everton academy graduate’s contract expires in the summer and Kenny explains there is a feeling among supporters that he has mentally checked out.
Kenny insists that Lundstram is receiving undue criticism and that the Bramall Lane faithful are simply using him as a “scapegoat.”
He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “It’s a difficult one. He’s getting a lot of criticism at the moment with the way he’s playing.
“But you could look at every player and say that. None of them are playing to the standard we want them to.
“Because he’s gonna be out of contract he’s maybe being used as a scapegoat.
“He’s turned down a deal and looking like he’s going to move on. Because of that, people are jumping on him even more.
“He’s probably a £10m player and would be a fantastic Championship player at that level.”
United could be mathematically relegated if they lose to Wolves and Newcastle can beat Champions League hopefuls West Ham on Saturday.
