Sheffield Wednesday vs Millwall postponement update as new snow and ice warning issued in Sheffield

Sheffield Wednesday’s clash with Millwall on Saturday has been thrown into doubt by the issuing of new weather warnings.

The Owls are set to host promotion-chasing Millwall at Hillsborough, as they look to provide the Championship with a major upset.

But the game, among countless others across the UK in the coming days, is at risk of postponement amid worsening weather conditions.

The Met Office have released yellow warnings for snow and ice across the north of England, with Sheffield expected to fall in the impact zone.

Officials will be keeping a close eye on conditions in the coming days, as much of the UK braces for freezing temperatures.

Millwall hope to continue promotion drive

Several clubs, including Millwall, are hoping to take advantage of Coventry City’s stumbles above them.

The Sky Blues had looked a dead-set for, at least, automatic promotion this season, but Frank Lampard’s team have crumbled.

Coventry have won just two of their last nine games across all competitions, and have already given up their lead at the top to Middlesbrough.

QPR 2-1 Coventry City
Norwich City 2-1 Coventry City

Coventry City 2-1 Leicester City

Should the poor form continue for much longer, they will find themselves at risk of the likes of Ipswich Town, Hull City and Millwall behind them, too.

All three teams sit within six points of Lampard’s side, and could easily leapfrog them in the coming weeks.

Millwall have an early chance to gain ground with Saturday’s trip, which will be against a team with just one win in 31 matches this season.

Sheffield Wednesday are all but relegated and are merely playing for pride at this point, but Alex Neil and Millwall will be careful not to underestimate their opponents.

That is, if the game actually goes ahead, with the weather set to have its say over the coming days.

Sheffield Wednesday preparations disrupted by conditions

Sheffield Wednesday have already been affected by the weather this week, but it is actually their training ground that has been disrupted.

The Star reports that the pitches at Middlewood Road have been hit by torrential rain in recent days, with Henrik Pedersen taking his team’s training at Hillsborough on Thursday.

“We have to do everything to be to be prepared for the game on Saturday, and that’s why we were in the stadium today,” the Owls manager said.

The pitch at Hillsborough is said to be holding up well ahead of the game, but officials will be keeping a close eye as temperatures drop.
