Sheffield Wednesday’s new owner to be named ‘within days’ as takeover update emerges
Sheffield Wednesday are edging closer to having a new owner in place after a significant update has emerged.
There has been plenty of interest in securing a Sheffield Wednesday takeover in recent months despite the club’s well-documented financial issues.
Sheffield Wednesday were placed into administration on 24 October, bringing to an end former owner Dejphon Chansiri’s 10-year reign at Hillsborough.
The administration resulted in Henrik Pedersen’s side being deducted 12 points, providing them with an almost impossible task avoiding relegation from the Championship this season.
Sheffield Wednesday were then deducted a further six points earlier this month for breaching the EFL’s regulations, having failed to pay their players in March, May and June of this year.

Sheffield Wednesday have received ‘really positive’ news
Sheffield Wednesday’s anticipated relegation hasn’t put off multiple parties from pursuing a takeover deal at Hillsborough.
The Owls’ position has been strengthened by the fact they will start next season on zero points, even though that is almost certain to be in League One given they are 29 points from safety at the bottom of the Championship table.
Finance expert Dan Plumley told Football Insider that is “really positive” news for Sheffield Wednesday as it will provide the new owners with a clean slate from the start of the 2026-27 campaign.

In a new update, Mike Keegan reported on Thursday (18 December) a preferred bidder is expected to be granted exclusivity “within days” as they look to take the reins at Hillsborough.
The Daily Mail journalist revealed the takeover battle is now shaping up to be a two-horse race between Mike Ashley and a consortium led by John McEvoy and the Storch family.
Sheffield Wednesday to accept £30m takeover bid
McEvoy has been among the leading candidates to take over at Hillsborough since the administration was confirmed.
The US billionaire has investments in baseball, ice hockey and music, with his minority stake in talent agency Various Artists providing a link with Sheffield band Reverend and the Makers.
Meanwhile, Ashley is keen to take over the Owls after selling his shares in Newcastle United four years ago.
Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider Sheffield Wednesday’s administrators will accept a £30m bid from one of the interested parties.
The ownership situation is now expected to be resolved within the coming days, allowing the club to start planning for a brighter future.
