By Matt Farr
Tim Sherwood admits he will try to sign Aston Villa winger Andre Green when he takes up his next managerial role.
The 18-year-old was in impressive form for the Championship club last season, earning regular opportunities in the first-team squad under Steve Bruce.
He made 17 appearances in all competitions last term in what his breakthrough season at Villa Park, and is likely to hold an important role again next season.
But it was Sherwood who had first offered the youngster a chance to impress within the senior setup, bringing him into the fold during his time as manager between February and October 2015.
Sherwood is keen to return to management, and admits he will be looking to snap up Green as soon as he lands his next opportunity in the dugout.
He said, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail: “If I was to go and get a job, certainly he’d be the one I’d be coming to take.
“Andre has got an attitude to die for and he needs to continue that. He’s a man already and he’s got so much in the locker there.
“He can play centre-forward, he can play off the left. Andre Green has got a massive future.”
But current Aston Villa boss Bruce will be likely be reluctant to let his impressive young asset leave the club given his pleasing start to life at Villa Park.
The England Under-19 international will be expected to challenge the likes of senior stars Jack Grealish, Gabriel Agbonlahor and Albert Adomah for a role in the starting eleven next term.
