Shock Thomas Frank to Tottenham claim emerges: ‘Something not right’

Brentford boss Thomas Frank is the clear frontrunner to take the Tottenham job, but the move could be a huge risk.

Spurs’ season ended on a high note last month as they won the Europa League against Manchester United, but their glory did not save Ange Postecoglou’s job following a dismal league campaign.

Their poor Premier League exploits saw them end the season in 17th place with 22 defeats to their name, and rumours around the Australian manager’s future were widespread after the end of the season, as a result.

Football Insider recently revealed that chairman Levy was set to relieve Postecoglou of his duties, and Spurs made their official announcement of the Australian’s departure on 6 June following “a review of performances and after significant reflection.”

Brentford boss Frank is in pole position to land the vacant role, following a recent report by Football Insider, and Spurs are expected to make an official approach for his services in the coming week [The Mail].

Brentford boss Frank urged not to take Tottenham job following Postecoglou’s sacking

Frank has done a stellar job with the Bees since his 2018 appointment, taking the club from mid-table in the Championship to Premier League stability, with two top-10 finishes in the last three seasons.

His impressive exploits at the West London club has seen him targeted by Spurs, but speaking live on talkSPORT on Saturday (7 June), former Brentford manager Martin Allen urged the Dane not to accept any offer from Spurs to take over as their new manager this summer and to instead wait for a bigger, more stable club to approach him, saying: “Why would he (Frank) want to go down that pathway where clearly something is not right behind the scenes for top, top managers to go in and be successful?

He continued, adding: “I don’t think that the move from Brentford, at the moment, to that club (Tottenham) is a good move for him and his career.

“If he is going to get a big one (club), he should wait for a big one and then I think he would be in the frame.”

Spurs need to sack Postecoglou and hire Frank as soon as possible

Football Insider verdict

It may come as a surprise to many that Spurs have sacked Postecoglou so soon after he led them to a first major trophy in 17 years, but their decision has now been made, and they need to get a new man in quickly to avoid any further complications.

Football Insider revealed last month that club chiefs have been exploring alternatives to the Australian manager for months, with Frank an option alongside Fulham’s Marco Silva and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola.

Now that the Brentford boss is a leading contender for the top job at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, they need to get on with it and secure his services following Postecoglou’s dismissal.

The Bees boss is an experienced operator in the Premier League now, having led the West London outfit to promotion back in 2021, and he is surely set to be on the radar of numerous top clubs if Spurs do not jump at the chance to hire him soon.

His pragmatic style of play may not instantly win Lilywhites supporters over, but he is sure to help them stabilise in the Premier League and move up the table, with much more chance of long-term success than if Postecoglou was to have continued at the helm.
