‘Shocking’ Man United verdict issued as summer transfer plan revealed – pundit
Man United must focus on their defence when rebuilding their squad this summer.
That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Red Devils’ summer plans.
As reported by Manchester Evening News (7 April), Man United want to sign a defensive midfielder and a striker this summer.

As per that report, the club are working on a deal for Leeds star Kalvin Phillips.
Scott McTominay and Fred have often been asked to screen the Man United defence this season though the duo have struggled in that role.
Kenny insists the new Man United manager must focus on his defence as a priority.
“They have been shocking at the back all season,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“That’s where I would be spending the money. But you look at the rest of the squad and it all needs work.
“They need a new striker, Ronaldo might leave, Rashford and Sancho are struggling.
“They also don’t have a proper defensive midfielder so it doesn’t surprise me they are targeting someone like Phillips.
“I just think you have to change that defence. There is a lack of depth and quality there and that’s not good enough for Man United.”

Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane and Luke Shaw have been Man United’s regular defenders this season.
Maguire has been heavily criticised for a number of high-profile mistakes.
