‘It shouldn’t happen’ – Bruno Alves makes admission after Rangers loss v St Johnstone

Rangers defender Bruno Alves has admitted he is at a loss to explain why his side capitulated against St. Johnstone in Saturday’s Scottish Premiership clash at Ibrox.

The Gers collapsed in the second-half and conceded twice as Tommy Wright’s side wrapped up a surprise 3-1 win at Ibrox.

The Light Blues had won their previous four games but struggled to ever really get going against Saints despite taking an early lead through Alfredo Morelos.

Alves revealed he was disappointed to lose against the Perth side but admitted he couldn’t put his finger on why the Gers struggled so badly.

“We are disappointed after four wins,” Alves said, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“It shouldn’t happen, especially at home. But we are trying to do better.

“We need to learn from our mistakes, keep moving forward and try to win our next games.

“It’s difficult to find a reason. We had the motivation after four wins.”

The result leaves the Gers three points behind Derek McInnes’ Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership in third place with leaders Celtic a further two points ahead.

The Ibrox side face Kilmarnock this weekend as they look to get back to winning ways with a trip to Celtic Park to face Brendan Rodgers’ side rapidly approaching.

Alves joined the Gers in the summer from Serie A side Cagliari after spells with Fenerbahce, Zenit St. Petersburg and Porto.

The veteran defender has won 94 caps for the Portuguese national side and was part of the team who lifted the European Championship last year in France.
