Simon Jordan takes dig at Liverpool 27-year-old after Bayern Munich clash

Former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has taken a dig at Daniel Sturridge after Liverpool’s 3-0 victory over Bayern Munich, labelling him the “equivalent of Darren Anderton.”

The Reds travelled to the Allianz Arena on Tuesday evening to face the German giants in a pre-season friendly dubbed the Audi Cup.

Sturridge started the match from the bench and came on after 68 minutes, scoring just 15 minutes later with a sweet finish in the 3-0 victory for the Merseyside giants.

It looked to be a perfect cameo for the 27-year-old before he was forced off with 87 minutes on the clock due to injury.

The knock is only the latest of a long list of injuries for Sturridge in recent years and on Wednesday afternoon Jordan compared the striker to the injury plagued former England midfielder Anderton via his personal Twitter account.

Sturridge’s injury was undoubtedly a blow for Jurgen Klopp and his team, but fans will also be delighted with the result against such a side as Bayern Munich.

The Reds also confirmed via their official club website on Wednesday that the striker would likely miss the friendly clash against Atletico Madrid, but was expected to be back for the season opener against Watford on August 12.

In other Liverpool news, Stan Collymore has urged the Reds to bring in new players after Bayern Munich friendly.
