Simone Inzaghi favourite to be next Arsenal manager as odds shift amid Mikel Arteta contract news

Arsenal are among the last clubs where a managerial change is expected any time soon, with Mikel Arteta’s team in superb form.

Arteta is expected to be offered a new contract at Arsenal, with the Spaniard keen to extend his six-year tenure at the Emirates Stadium.

The former midfielder returned to the club in December 2019 and with the Gunners having yet to follow up an FA Cup win in his first season, the 43-year-old will be keen to see out his project.

Arsenal beat Bayern Munich 3-1 on Wednesday, with goals from Jurrien Timber, Noni Madueke and Gabriel Martinelli further establishing the Gunners’ status among Europe’s best.

Timber received huge praise for his performance against Bayern, with the right-back continuing to impress this season.

Mikel Arteta’s contract talks scheduled as betting market shifts

Arsenal’s contract talks with Arteta are expected to progress in 2026, with no immediate fear over the Spaniard’s future.

Decision-makers at the Emirates Stadium have backed the manager throughout his tenure, with last summer seeing a record transfer window spend for the Gunners.

Viktor Gyokeres, Eberechi Eze, Madueke, Martin Zubimendi, and Piero Hincapie were the standout arrivals from a summer that saw Arsenal spend around £250million.

And for good reason, it would appear so far, with squad depth among the North London club’s strongest attributes.

Foreign interest is expected to ramp up in Arteta over the coming years, especially if the Spaniard can win either the Premier League or the Champions League this season.

There are some concerns that the 43-year-old would see his job at Arsenal done should the Gunners lift one of the game’s biggest prizes, with the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid having sniffed around previously.

Simone Inzaghi is the 5/1 odds-on favourite to be the next Arsenal manager should that scenario play out, according to one major bookmaker.

Odds have lengthened in recent days, due to the strong form of the Gunners under Arteta.

What Mikel Arteta said about his Arsenal future

The man who brought Arteta to Arsenal as a player, Arsene Wenger, spent 22 years in the dugout.

The current Gunners boss is not ready to think about a tenure that long, however. When Arteta was asked last year about if he could see himself at Arsenal in five years, he said: “No.

“I mean, I think you have to live in the present in this job, and obviously you have to plan for what’s coming in the mid-term and long-term, that’s for sure, and we have a lot of conversations regarding that.

“But I think the energy has to be in the moment, paying attention to every detail and understanding how things are working, putting more processes in place to make better decisions, and always have that aim to keep everybody in this fit, to get the best out of them, and make sure they feel part of what they do.”

Should Arsenal maintain the level they are currently at, then Arsenal fans will hope to see Arteta in the dugout for as long as possible.
